well, i don't want defend pix_aging, but just for clarification:
[pix_aging] is pixel-based, scratches/grains/... are (if i remember 
correctly) fixed in size (this is: pixels). e.g. a scratch is (say) 2 
pixels wide.
now if you have a 64x64 image, this is indeed very broad (1/32 the 
image-width); if you have bigger frames (e.g. 512x256) the scratches 
become much finer.
