[PD] debugging patches

Hi list

Just wondering, since I don't think this has been
asked before, how do you all go about debugging your
patches? Could some way of seeing the last value sent
to an inlet be implemented to help with this? E.g. if
I had

  [r something]
  |
[+]

I could hover over the right [+] inlet to see the last
message sent from something. I seem to spent about
half debugging time adding [print]s and boxes all over
the place.
