If you're on Gnu/Linux, you can use the shell extension with scripts that use 
the commands from the cdtool suite: http://hinterhof.net/cdtool/

And if you feel like coding your own C externals, the source from these tools 
would be a good start! But there might be some external out there that 
already does what you need...
