...unfortunately one is stuck with one window under 
"gem-as-it-is"...fortunately, IOhannes came up with a new 
"multiple_window" scheme, which is under said tag in the gem cvs...even 
better (at least for you, cuz I think yr on osx, right?), I just got 
the multiple_window branch to work on OSX last week, and atm am 
cleaning up the code to commit it...now, it's a whole other question as 
to when this'll get released:  I'm not sure if the code is 
complete/working on windoze?

...anyway, it'll exactly answer your above needs :-)
