[PD] PD compile on Mac Pismo?

Hi all-

Recently upgraded my Mac Pismo from Debian 2.4 to 2.6.8 and have
installed the ALSA drivers instead of OSS.

I've got tcl8.3 and libgtk1.2 installed along with the dev packages.
gcc is 3.3.5

When I was running 2.4, I had successfully compiled PD-0.38-0 and was
running it. Now after upgrading and configuring with './configure
--enable-alsa', I get the following message from PD at launch:

>vatic:/usr/local/src/pd-0.38-0/bin# ./pd -noadc
>priority 98 scheduling enabled.
>memory locking enabled.
>priority 96 scheduling enabled.
>memory locking enabled.
>Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
>Xlib: No protocol specified
>
>Application initialization failed: couldn't connect to display ":0.0"
>watchdog: signaling pd...

I checked the output of ./configure for anythin untoward, but didn't see
anything. Here's the GUI portion:

>checking for X... libraries /usr/X11R6/lib, headers /usr/X11R6/include
>checking for XCreateWindow in -lX11... yes
>checking tcl.h usability... no

Anyone have an idea about what's going on?

Thanks!
