[PD] gesture tracking

Hi list,
I work on vision-based gestural control of music. I currently use Eyesweb to analyse the live image, extract relevant parameters, then send them to Pd in order to control sound. As Eyesweb's image processing blocks are not very flexible, I wonder whether I could use Pd and Gem for image analysis instead of Eyesweb ? Would it be more flexible ? Are there efficient Pd external libraries for dealing with color images, live video capture, and calculations with image matrices ? Thanks in advance for your advices.
