There is a certain overhead because Pd has to draw and update more,
than if you'd just have hidden all the GUI elements completely. This
has become a much smaller problem with pd-0.38 though. But before
that, using a [vu] in a GOP patch was really slowing things down.
I didn't do any real benchmarks, though.
Personally I consider the overhead of having to open up a patch to
edit some values a bigger burden, though.
