and of course there is [scopeXYZ~] (in the CVS), but this is really a 
live-scope and it might be rather hairy to get a proper wave-form of an 
entire WAV-file (otoh, shouldn't be that hard too)
it should be way simpler to use (and more efficient) than whatever [curve*]
