Hi,

hmm...

Since [pix_film] and [pix_movie] have inlets for the frame number, you 
are already there. Just pick one random number (position of playback 
start) with [random] and add another one [random] as playback snippet 
length. then combine these two in a counter that counts from zero to the 
second number (length), and add the first (start) number.

Not sure about the functionality of BBCutLib though.

Things start to get more interesting when you want to work with more 
than one movie as source. I suggest you have a look at [pix_buf] to 
avoid accessing the hard disk too much, and store frames in an online 
buffer. Writing and reading from this could be controlled by random 
values then...
