Ah,

I would be DAMN suprised is Apple X11 will allow you to do video out. :(
I've had issues with X11 not working properly with dual displays in
general, misreading the resolution after the server has been created,
etc.. I never tried dual monitors non-mirrored in X11.

Are you using X11 in "root" mode, or in the mode where the X11 windows
float over your normal aqua windows? Try the other option from what your
doing and see if that works any better.

I HAVE used X11 mirroring on the external DVI display... Works fine with
a few minor bugs... does that much work for you?
