[PD] Problems loading Gem on 0.38-4 / OSX 10.3.9

Hi,

I have installed PD-0.38-4 - extended version on OSX 10.3.9.  PD seems 
to work but it does not load the GEM Library. Do I still need to start 
PD from the terminal if I want to use Gem? Or can I change the App to 
always load Gem.
