4th solution:

define an environment variable in your startup script. just type a line 
like this:

set BSL=\

you can now call this environment variable by typing %BSL% in any 
pd-message, where internally it will be replaced by good old \.
i had some fairly good szccess with that method when it came to 
dynamically defining paths with pd messages
