[PD] testing for a blank symbol

Anyone have any clever ideas for testing for a blank symbol using only  
objects in Miller's Pd?  This generates a blank symbol, if its not  
clear what I am talking about:

[symbol]
|
...

I want to filter out blank symbols from a stream of incoming symbols.
