[PD] 24 bit causing distortion

hello list,

I am trying to use writesf~ to record 24/96 sound files but it seems 
that any bit depth other than 16 is causing distortion. I'm using pd 
0.38-3 from Miller's site on a powerbook with os 10.2, and I'm using 
audacity for playing back the files. In addition I have the same 
distortion when loading a perfectly fine 24 bit file into an array.
