something like this should work:

gemhead
|
pix_video
|
pix_texture
|
pix_rectangle

In your patch, you convert the gemlist that the
gemhead sends out every 50 ms (and that gem needs to
actually render something) to the message "Driver 1".
I'm not familiar with the pix_video on linux, but you
probably need to send this message only once to
pix_video:

gemhead

| |driver 1(
|/
pix_video
|
pix_texture
|
rectangle
