[PD] compiling PD from CVS

Hello list, 
I am trying to compile PD from CVS but it seems the
./configure file is missing. I tried both 0.39-1 and
O.39-1test1 with no success.
 ./configure
zsh: aucun fichier ou répertoire de ce type:
./configure
zsh: exit 127   ./configure
?
Am I missing something obvious?
