[PD] make problems in ubuntu [g_canvas]

on the list, probably because i hadnt subscribed...

Hi,
I hope this is the right place to post, im trying to install pd onto my laptop
running ubuntu breezy 5.10. i get past the ./configure phase and the make
depend [ which outputs "nothing to be bone for "depend"" ] but i get errors
when i try to make [ or sudo make ]

Here you go:

FATAL: can't create ../obj/g_canvas.o: No such file or directory

Which is true there is no file g_canvas.o but there are files g_canvas.c and
g_canvas.h in the src directory.

Im new to linux but ive looked in the makefile and theres some stuff relating to
 .o and .c, heres the start of that:

Ive searched the net to try and find an answer to this and cant so if anyone
