...20fps is the default fps of the [gemwin]:  you can change this by sending
a [frame $1< to [gemwin] with the desired framerate...also, are you playing
back the movie via [auto 1<?  If so, then it will playback locked to the
frame rate of the window...alternatively you could just use a [metro] to
bang a [counter] and get variable framerates for the movie, without
affecting other things...this is actually how I use gem:  I always like to
run [gemwin] at 60fps, which gives smooth animations, but I also like
decoupling the movie playback from the window fps...
