[PD] Installation of HID package

Another newb question I'm afraid...but I'm getting there!

As recommended by some members of this list the other day, I've downloaded
the HID 0.6 external to allow interaction with a playstation controller. But
I'm not sure where I need to install the external? (I'm using OS X 10.4).
Also, how do I check that I haven't already got the HID package, as I think
when I 1st installed PD it was bundled with some externals already included.
