[PD] alsa / oss / jack

[hard off]

quick linux questions;

im getting error messages in the terminal that say;

OSS: could not set sampling rate for this device
OSS; ioctl on output device failed

then , an error in the pd log that says;

error: OSS: SNDCTL_DSP_CHANNELS failed /dev/dsp


as far as i have read...i need to install a module called snd-pcm1-oss

but i don't have that on my system.

can someone tell me how to install this module...or if there is a
workaround.  i haven't configured pd to work with jack yet, so if i use jack
is that going to make things easier?
