last i dug into GEM source, a couple years ago, it was still not using DirectShow filters to input the files, so installing a codec in the system wouldnt give it a chance at being readable insid GEM. if you want nice AVI/windows codec support, try VVVV. if youre runing windows and want something fully native and embracing the capabilities the OS has to offer and dont mind being able to peek at the source, it is the way to go..
