[PD] newbie: crash in pixeltango and miXed demos

hey,

i have a new installation of pd-0.38.4-extended on Windows, and i'm 
getting a bunch of crashes around loading the pixelTango and miXed demo 
patches.

any miXed demo crashes with

miXed consistency check failed: widget_getcvpathname

output to the console.

pixelTango demos just plain crash.

anyone have any ideas why this might be?
