[PD] a better graph editor for sequencing

hey everyone, thanks for help/advice earlier with timing stuff.
the next thing i'd like is to be able to have a nice quick
performance-oriented way of editing sequences. i've discovered you can
do something along the lines of what i want to do with an array, setting
its graph to 'draw as polygon', as on the sequencer part of the zuwift
patch.
however there are some quirks with 'draw as polygon' that i'm not too
fond of. first, it would be nice to show a hard attack as a hard attack,
rather than a soft curve. second, it would be nice to have some visual
representation of where 1, 5, 9, and 13 were to take the guesswork out
putting something 'on the beat'. third, it would be nice to be able to
just click in an empty space where i want the new value to be, rather
than having to drag the existing value to the proper level.
what techniques should i be investigating for doing this? possibly i
should be looking at the widget external but i'm using windows and it
doesn't work (crashes pd on instantiation).
