[Pd] OT- Multi-System Networking (was Re: [Pd] splitting Pd on two processors)

Well, I have an old G3 now as a gift from a friend for helping him move.
I was anticipating putting Linux on it and networking with my Windows
box, but it turns out it still has Mac OS 9.2 installed.
Now I'm thinking my best bet may be to install Linux like I did
before, on the slave hard drive on the Windows machine, and set up one
network between XP and Mac, and then another network between Linux and
Mac. One of the main reasons I removed Linux was the inability to
transfer files, and this would seem to rectify that.

Would this be the best way? I could alternately make a new partition
on the Mac hard drive and put Linux there, or wipe it and make it
totally Linux. I might end up having to do this if my friend can't
tell me a password for root access on the G3 (the school where he
teaches was getting rid of it).

So I have a couple of questions I was hoping you more experienced
systems guys might answer:
a) Is this in fact the best setup? A network from XP with Mac, and
one from Linux to Mac? (I would like to gain experience with all
three, but if OS 9.2 isn't worth the trouble I could wipe it.) Also,
the Windows machine is 2 GHz, and I have no idea how slow the G3 is,
definitely much slower.

b) Will it work okay to run -noaudio on a client and -nogui on the
host? As of now I only have one keyboard/mouse/monitor, so I'm
guessing these will have to be connected to the GUI and the speakers
with the audio... I don't mind switching peripherals to get the thing
up and running each time. Maybe the G3 should be the client. Or if
necessary I could scour ebay for Mac peripherals.

c) Can I buy you a beer next time you're in Philly?

Thanks.
Chuckk
