[PD] installing ann on ubuntu Breezy

I am trying to get ANN working on ubuntu Breezy. I downloaded FANN from 
CVS and built it. It works, no problem. I have tried all of their 
examples. I then downloaded ANN: the fann bindings for Pd. This built 
and installed with no problem. However, when I create the object ann_mlp 
in Pd, I get from the console:

/usr/lib/pd/extra/ann_mlp.pd_linux: /usr/lib/pd/extra/ann_mlp.pd_linux: 
undefined symbol: fann_create_array
 ann_mlp
... couldn't create

what am I doing wrong?
