[PD] comport in Win XP "Write error, maybe TX-OVERRUNS on serial line"

That's interesting -- are you still using [comport $1 9600] instead of 
[comport 1 9600]?
It seems to me that you are continually reopening COM1 that way...if you 
send the number 2 you will open COM2 and so on...
