i once used a fujitsu-lifebook with a touchscreen to control(!) our 
3d-mixer (both the control-unit and the 3d-mixer being pd-patches)

patching is horror (so i would say: no, pd _patchers_ (as in "coders") 
don't really have a need for such device). it is almost as awful as 
patching on a pda.
from the users pov it was quite ok (the [bng]s were HUGE)
