[PD] Coloring text in GEM

This seems like a silly question, but I can't for the life of me get
the text2d and text3d objects to have color to them, using either the
color or colorRGB objects in GEM 0.90, on OSX with Pd-extended 0/39
test 4.  What am I missing here?
