...not dead yet...as usual, a .dll file in this case is windows only,  
and indeed most of the available plugins are compiled only for  
windows...generally we have to wait for source releases to make a  
linux or osx version...

...[pix_freeframe] does work on all 3 platforms (err, I haven't tried  
windows), but currently the freeframe spec is undergoing a bit of  
revision to make the api interface more "level" between all the  
os's...basically, when freeframe 1.0 was released, it really hadn't  
been ported to linux or osx:  there is working code, but it is  
similar to pre-1.0 specs that had been tried out...so it works, but...?
