[PD] [Gem]: "Failed to map depth buffer"

hi all

since some time, i don't recall since when exactly - a few weeks or so,
i cannot use gem anymore. as soon as i send [create( to [gemwin], i get
in the stderr:

'fglrx: Failed to map depth buffer!'

and the pd-window says:

'Direct Rendering enabled!
GEM: Start rendering'

the gem-window does pop-up, but instead of the black background it just
shows the desktop from behind (framebuffer not cleared?).
i think it started to happen after an 'xorg-driver-fglrx'-update, but i
am not sure. recompiling gem didn't help.

the system:
-always up-to-date ubuntu dapper
-pd_40test3-test5
-Gem 0.91-cvs (checked out last week)

i don't know too much about this stuff, so i am not sure if this really
is related to gem or to fglrx (or something else). the only i can tell:
3dp (the opengl-part of pdp) seems to work fine. also fgl_glxgears or
glxgears works. also the glx-output of pdp [pdp_glx] works, but for some
reason i can only create one window. a second [pdp_glx]-window stays
white and i get the same error on stderr ('fglrx: Failed to map depth
buffer!') and when creating a third one, pd crashes. otoh, i can create
as many windows i want with mplayer using '-vo gl'. this all is quite
confusing me and i don't know where to start right now. googling the
error-message didn't help me a lot.
any suggestions are very appreciated.

ciao
roman
