[PD] Any Linux distribution recomended for Mac, Puredata and vjing?

I know that is true with Debian but does that work with Ubuntu too?
Has anyone tried?

It think you'll have the best luck with Ubuntu or Debian since you  
can get pre-compiled packages for Gem, PDP, and PiDiP.
