the "xset" command interacts with the Xserver in the background and has 
nothing to do with pd.
you have to execute it somewhere in the running X-session, e.g. in your 
startpd.sh script (just before running pd), or in a script that is 
executed once you log into your x-session. (the latter being the better, 
imho)
