Actually they've been only exposed to math as a kind of drudgery and hoops 
to jump through to get good marks. After the fun is thus killed, this bad 
impression is socially reinforced, confirmed, encouraged, and even cool. 
It's cool to not know any math. There are many people proud to not know 
any math.
