[PD] Glitches during audio test on Mac OS X (newbie)

I am using PD on OSX, and I use JackOSX for anything that requires
reliability. So try that, or try setting the delay in the "Audio
Settings" dialog to a larger number. This increases the latency, and
should lessen the chance of dropouts. I think the problem is that PD
doesn't use the native OSX Core Audio drivers, but rather a set of
Portaudio drivers. I've had less than ideal luck using Portaudio on OSX
for anything, so my inclination is to see the problem there.

best,
d.

Usually, they are spaced evenly in a 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 rhythm (only occasionally breaking that rhythm before settling back). No matter what I set the delay to, I get these glitches in the sound. No other audio program (like Ableton Live) is having any issues with the on-board sound card I am not running any other programs at the time of Pd. I can reproduce this issue faithfully through several releases back, even with special "extended" compiles.
