It seems to happen in canvas_saveto() in g_readwrite.c, so it's not tcl, just c.
These seem to be the dimensions:
(int)(x->gl_screenx1),
(int)(x->gl_screeny1),
(int)(x->gl_screenx2 - x->gl_screenx1),
(int)(x->gl_screeny2 - x->gl_screeny1)
but they are used in two places depending if it's a root canvas or not.
