[PD] Using Webcams with PD

Hi guys,
I am currently trying to create a patch that will allow me to scan the
profile of a 3D object using a webcam has anybody experimented with doing
this before, what objects would I need to use to read the information into
PD?
Any help or example patches would be most appreciated ..
