I mean something like this: http://www.lua.org/pil/10.1.html of course
adapted to music, so a datafile could look like: 

    Instruments{
        bass = tb303{
            cutoff = 10,
            cf = 440
        },
        drum = "drumset1"
    }

    Patterns{
        p1 = "1 0 0 0 1 0 0 1",
        p2 = "0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0",
    }

    Score{
       bass.play(p1),
       drum.play(p2)
    }

or so.
