[PD] multiple audio device

Hmmm,
I am using Pd version 0.39.3-extended on a XP machine with a RME Hammerfall  sound card. Always when I choose "use multiple devices" in the Media menu of PD I get this message:
separate audio device choice not supported\; using sequential devices.

That's quite strange as I would like to use all the 8 outputs of my sound card, but it doesn't work. It worked with earlier PD versions though.
Does anybody know how to solve that? Or why the problem occurs?
