Ubuntu studio has more audio packages to choose from. More-over, it has 
a realtime kernel. (For the next version, they're also working on a 
tickless kernel. That should give you lower latency.

It's not :-) Seriously, Jack is hard to setup, but once you've figured 
that out, you can use the jack control panel, which is quite easy. If 
you have trouble with that, just ask. (I'll be away until the end of the 
week though.)

Ardour is working really good these days, it's said. Have not used it 
myself yet.

Open configuration files in gedit. If you start it with sudo, you can 
save changes to your system configuration.
