maybe this is a 10.5 related problem? which version of osx were you using?
I also get an error message when I try to open a patch, but I am not 
sure if that is related to the problem.

on the other hand, it worked after I created a new copy of 
/Applications/Pd-0.41-4 and pasted the compiled binaries into /bin.
