sorry, in case this obvious for you, but have you tried to save the
patch and reopen it? [declare] shows only effect on patch load, afaik.

however, i several times fooled myself when testing [declare] (forgot to
remove .pdrc or i had a symlink from home to extra) and sometimes it was
really not working. this led me to think, that it might be useful to
have a test setup for testing [declare]. i am thinking of something as
as test directory/file layout and a test patch that shows how these
files can be made visible to the patch using declare. additionally it
would be helpful to have the according verbose output in order to make
sure, that the pathes haven't been added by .pdrc (or whatsoever). i
would be glad to elaborate such a test environment for [declare], but at
this point it is not even clear, how [declare] is supposed to behave in
certain cases (e.g. when used in abstractions).

afaik, hans already provided some patches to fix those [declare] issues.
however, i don't know since which version of pd-extended those patches
are included. you might check the changelog to see whether [declare] is
supposed to work correctly in your version. afaik, at this point it is
also not clear, whether those patches will get accepted, so there might
be more trouble to come. let's hope for the best.
