[PD] re-linking video libraries - stabilizing libraries.

I'm having trouble with Pd and video on....
1) g4 portable - titanium, 1 gig RAM - 0sx.3.9, osx.4.11
gem is unstable, as is pidip
2) minimac intel 1.83 mhz duo - mac 10.4.11 runs great!! but
a) Ubuntu 2.6.20-16-generic - gem cannot acces vid libraries, nor can pidip
b) Dyne:bolic /2618ck1d.krn - gem cannot find libs, nor can pidip nor gridflow
on both Ubuntu and Dyne .... Kino functions..... Meaning there must be a bad refernce or library use ....
Can I relink or grep these?
Any ideas why we are good on mac, but on the same computer, bad for linux?
So, can I link these libraries to Kino's dependencies? or to ffmpeg? How??
finally, on an older HP omnibook,
I cannot get Ubuntu dapper, or Feisty(upgraded) or Dynebolic (with Pure:dyne modules) to function with any video program....yet....
Thus, no gem or gridflow or pidip video.....

i would like to be able to capture part of the screen of the computer
where pure data is running: some kind of video snapshot in real time.
For example: get a window 400x400 offset 600+400 on screen:0 and send
it to position 0+0 to screen:1 or send it to another machine via OSC

The interface builder (mrmrIB) doesn't seam to run on 10.4 but on
10.5 - so your are lucky. I haven't tried the IB yet as i don't run
10.5, but i was to make a performance app/interface combo for a
friend who got one of them phones. It doesn't say much about it in
the tutorial but i suspect that while building the interface you'd
give the widgets a "OSC-name". I would be nice to know what you cook
up.

well after banging my head against the wall for a couple hours late yesterday
afternoon i found the trouble to be with the 'pipeline' object in my
patch...
it also was odd that i couldn't connect prior to firing up the interface
builder (mrmrIB) app. once i did that that mrmr auto-connected upon launch
whether mrmrIB was launched or not.
also i noticed that mrmr does not seem to retain its port settings - i have to
re-type it in every time the app is launched.
once its running it controls my patch just fine and fairly fast!

just using it as demo for my students right now. all incoming freshman received
a free 'ipod touch' with the purchase of a mac - so they all have the
means to experiment now! fun fun....

sorry for late reply (i currently only have internet sporadically)
i tried to make a netpd-server based on [tcpserver] from mrpeach instead
of [netserver] from maxlib. it wasn't that straightforward as i thought
in the beginning, because i had to use another library pdstring from
moocow in order to convert string to ascii and vice versa. also i had to
'implement' the FUDI protocol to make the new server behave exactly
like
the old one. i was running the new server on netpd.org for testing and
it seemed to work at first glance. BUT: when i tried to upload some
patches to other clients, transmission didn't work at all. it always
stopped at some point. i hadn't the time to figure out, what exactly was
going on, so i just switched back to the old server (netpd-server.pd).
you'll find all the different servers on:

right now, don't use 'netpd-server-tcpserver.pd', which is
unfortunately
broken. the other ones are based on [netserver] and might crash after a
while, but at least the seem to fully work beside that.

just for your information:
i am not happy about the 'proprietary' FUDI based protocol, that netpd
uses right now. we (eni and me) are trying to port netpd to plain OSC
protocol. therefore i implemented an OSC proxy server in pd. it is
currently running on netpd.org on the port 8003. what it does is simply
forwarding OSC packets to all/specific clients according to the first
field in the OSC address pattern. if everything is going to work well,
netpd will use OSC in the future (i hope this makes it easier to connect
netpd with other projects). you'll find the specs on:

you can send some message to [s pd] to change sound and midi settings.
those messages aren't documented anywhere, though (is that correct?).
however, you could do the following:
[r pd]
|
[print settings]
then go the menu, choose your settings and hit <ok> and you will see
some output. write the output to a [messagebox( (separate each line with
a comma), which is connected to [s pd] and bang the
[messagebox( whenever you like to restore those exact settings.
with a bit of playing around, you might be able to figure out, what each
number in the message is used for. then you would be able to compose
correct messages without using the above hack.

A while ago I had a related problem, (iirc, starting pd with -alsamidi
flag didn't show the midi ports to aconnect rightaway)
I did this:
use [r pd]--[print] to see what pd gets sent when you click the menu,
and use pd -alsamidi -send "; pd ...whatever the message was"
so my start-up command looked somewhat like this:
pd -alsamidi -send "; pd midi-dialog 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 1"
It did _not_ work when I tried it inside the pd patch with a [message(,
but only by putting this in the start-up command.
