[PD] GEM - nvidia GeForce 6150SE with nvidia proprietary driver and ubuntu 8.10 hangs for number of seconds

for some reason the hanging doesn't happen as often when using compiz as 
opposed to metacity. I can live with this as long as I can be sure that 
when operating in fullscreen mode for several hours at the performance I 
am not going to have any hanging. My casual observations make me 
optimistic but if anybody has seen it hang while in fullscreen mode 
please let me know immediately so I can find an alternative solution for 
the gig on Fri.
