installing pd via autoconf / ./configure / make / sudo make install on ubuntu (8.04) does not put the binary in /usr/local/lib/pd/bin/pd but in  /usr/local/bin/pd 
so, after a sudo ln -s  /usr/local/bin/pd /usr/local/lib/pd/bin/pd, pd~ help file is working great....
