and another alternative, based on jacks example.
no real need to segment the image.


i also suggest starting to use [pix_writer] instead of [pix_write] (what
names!), which does not have the grabbing code built in.
eventually [pix_write] will vanish. (it can easily be built with
[pix_snap] and [pix_writer].)
