[PD] PDuino problems

Hey All
I've just downloaded the pduino object class on macOS 10.4 and everything seems to be in order in PD. I've also got my arduino board working fine in it's own right and the correct serial port opened from the [arduino] help page. However the only degree of direct control I appear to have is with the receive light on the board itself. Otherwise I appear to have no transfer to the pins or data going back to PD. 
Am I missing something here?
