the order of appearance of [alpha] is not relevant (as long as it
happens before the Geo): it just enables alpha blending.

[pix_alpha] will calculate the alpha-mask on the fly, which i think is
not what matteo wants (he wants to use pre-rendered alpha-masks; see
chris' answer on this)
