I have a shell script named "underscorify" :

for z in *; do
   a=$(echo $z | sed 's/ /_/'g)
   mv "$z" "$a"
done

I've used it for about ten years.

You can either paste it in the terminal, or put it in a file that you run 
from the terminal. You first have to "cd" to the folder where you want to 
do this.
