[PD] pd on armv7 (beagleboard): crackles / pcm not available?

it sounds like a pulseaudio problem.  Ubuntu comes with a sound deamon
called pulseaudio.  Pd doesn't like it, but other apps are okay with it.

try killing or removing pulseaudio or 
doing "pasuspender"

and then starting pd with alsa.
