[PD] optimizing gui performance

hi,

i've been working on a complex patch with a lot of sliders, bangs and
numberboxes that are being updated. of course i'm running into problems
where the patch refresh-rate gets really really low and it becomes
unusable.

is there i list of things that i should be aware of that are most
intensive for gui so that i can avoid them or find a way around them?
like for example does the slider that is within an abstraction with
graph-on-parent take more cpu/gpu than if it's on the topmost parent
patch? is number-box less expensive then number2? what would be the
pointers to follow when one wants to optimised the gui interface (apart
from having absolutely no gui objects being updated)?

i'm on ubuntu-maverick with 42.5 pd-extended (official -
non-antialiased fonts). i have both tcl8.4 and tcl8.5 in my system.

best, luka
